If you’ve been following along on B-Inspired Mama for any length of time, you might have figured out by now that I’m a semi-homemade kind of mama.If there’s a shortcut to make it easier for me to be creative with my kids, I’m going to use it. And I’m going to share it with you!

And what better mama shortcut than a semi-homemade meal or dessert using frozen ingredients right out of the freezer to save time, right? Can you figure out what I used out of my freezer to make this cute Christmas cake recipe so easy my kids could make it?! Let’s check it out and see…

Semi-Homemade Christmas Tree Shaped Christmas Cake Recipe

Jump to the Full Printable Recipe! This is SO semi-homemade I almost don’t even want to call it a “recipe”. I mean, there’s no baking involved. The secret… A Sara Lee Butter Pound Cake right out of the freezer!

We already know it’s delicious. No need to worry about messing it up or getting distracted by the kids and burning a cake.

Just pull it out of the freezer and let it thaw about 10 minutes (not entirely thawed because it’s easier to cut and maneuver into our Christmas tree shaped if still a little bit frozen), and you’re ready to make a Christmas Tree Shaped Christmas Cake the kids will be in awe over!

Once you’ve got the Christmas Tree shaped cake in place on a pretty Christmas platter (or even just a wax paper lined baking sheet), you can let older kids have at icing it with green icing and whipped cream (or white icing instead of whipped cream if you’d prefer). Or if your kids are still little, you can do the icing for them.

I alternated the white and green icing and tried to make it look a bit fancy, like garland going across the Christmas Tree. Super cute, right?!

Finally, let the kids decorate the Christmas Tree Cake with holiday candy “ornaments”.We used Christmas Gum Drops and Mini Christmas M&M’s, but you could really use any kind of Christmas candy. Maybe even let the kids pick it out!
