Purple Car Paint | Candy Paint Colors

Purple Candy custom car paint colors are unique in the automotive paint world. True candy colors are created in a 3 step process with the first step being some kind of reflective base (usually metallic, the second step being atransparentcolored layer, and the 3rd being a protective clear coat. As light shines on a candy finish it passed through the clear coat and candy layer where it is reflected back through the film and colored by the candy layer. This approach creates truly unique colors that are stand out versus normal automotive paint jobs. The downside of candy paints is they are more expensive, more difficult to apply and repair, and often have less than1/3rd the life of a pearl, metallic or solid color automotive paint job. Despite these challenges many automotive enthusiast still seek candy colors due to the richness of the colors created.

Purple Pearl Paint Colors are created using special “pearlescent” with transparent coloring agents to give colors that have a rich shimmer of many different sizes and colors. Unlike metallic colors, the pearl pigment itself will give off a colored shimmer whereas a metallic pigment by itself will be some form of silver. Pearl colors can be 2 stage where a pearl base color is applied then cleared or a 3 stage system where a solid base color is applied, then a pearl midcoat, and a protective clearcoat. Shown below are our selections of 2 stage pearl colors. We have both types available in the store. Pearl custom car paints are generally more expensive that metallic paints but most factors are similar to those of the metallic shades.

Purple Car Paint | Solid Car Paint Color

Purple Solid colors do not have a sparkling component when exposed to light. Therefore, they are said to be of “solid” hue. This aspect makes them easier to apply, easier to repair, and generally less expensive than pearls and metallic colors. Longevity is comparable to metallics and pearls. Don’t mistake lack of sparkle for boring color. There are many rich, eye popping solid custom paint car colors available. Download our most popular solid colors collection by clicking the image. There are a broad array of color changing custom car paint colors in commercial application but the most common used in the automotive industry is commonly referred to as “chameleon paints”. These colors change based on the viewing angle between the observer and the light source. Color changes are often radical. Like candy paints, chameleon paints are a 3 stage process. However, chameleon paints start with a non-reflective base, usually black. A special pearl is applied over the black base and cleared for gloss and protection. Also like candy paints, chameleon paints are difficult to apply, repair, and are much more expensive than our conventional automotive paints (although our color changing paints are MUCH more affordable than our competition. However, unlike candy paints these finishes typically weather quite well.
