how long does it take you to get the integrated cybernetics tech? (2024)

in order to start the cybernetic ascension?

i never see it before 2300, and it's usually 2350 or later.

am i doing something wrong? is there some hidden pre-requisite? it's beginning to feel as elusive as psionic theory is when i play spiritualist without teachers of the shroud origin.

it feels horrible to be sitting here with a dyson sphere and a matter decompressor and building my second ring world, and i have psionic, biological, and synthetic ascension traditions unlocked, but cybernetic tech to unlock the one i actually want simply won't appear. if i plan a build for an ascension path, that's the ascension path i'm taking. a good game may run me 20-30 hours of time over several days. it make my time feel horribly wasted when stuff like this happens.

they really need to change the order and have the traditions unlock the tech, and not the tech unlock the traditions

Its only prerequisites that I know of are the early robot techs, but once you start opening up more tech tiers it starts getting harder to roll some of the lower techs as they are competing with slots for everything else when it comes to tech draws .

I got it about 50 years in in my most recent campaign, and I've seen it pop up much earlier in some cases.

i'm not missing it. i thought i might be, so i developed the habit of pausing the game to and carefully reading the research options when a new tech pops up. i've had this issue with all of the ascension paths, and also with mega-engineering refusing to appear despite me having citadels/battleships and zero point reactors and being on repeatable lvl 5 research techs.

are you saying i need a tier 3 tech to unlock a tier 2 tech? integrated cybernetics is tier 2, and i'm pretty sure i've gotten it before tier 3 capital tech at least once or twice.

psionic theory is also tier 2 and can take ages to appear

No you need level 3 capital building tech (its a tier 2 tech) and you haven't got integrated cybernetics before it as its a prerequisite tech.

you can force this to appear. you need industry scientists for the first two levels, but it switches to voidcraft for the third level, megaengineering. and to get it, you can increase the drop rate by spamming citadels. the more high level the starbase, the higher it increases the droprate, and the more of them you have, the more they stack. so if you have nothing but citadels, and you have a voidcraft scientist, you have max drop rate.

According to the wiki, the largest boost for the drop rate of Mega-Engineering is having a mega-structure inside your borders, which increases the weight by 20x. Also, scientist specialization doesn't matter, and citadels only stack 6 times.

Other ways to increase the drop rate include having 6 starholds (level 2 starbases, 9x weight, same as citadels), colonizing a habitat (2x weight), having Technological Ascendancy (1.5x weight), and having a neighbor who already has the tech (1.5x weight).

Also, Mega-Engineering is on the same tier as repeatables, so you're likely to start seeing both at about the same time.

yes, i know it's the same tier as repeatables. i'm saying it still doesn't appear.

my friends have sat, astounded to witness, that i can repeatedly hit year 2400 and still not have mega-engineering, while all my other research options are repeatables or things i simply don't research like missiles, which i eventually start researching when the repeatable engineering techs like kinetic weapon damage start getting too expensive and taking too long. it gives me a better chance of getting mega-engineering when the list is refreshed more often.

this happens to me so frequently that among my friends it is a meme how absolutely cursed i am. i can be sitting on a vast empire with a handful of vassals, orbital rings on all my planets and an ecumenopolis or three, a dozen citadels, massive fleets and a level 5 federation rocking dark matter tech after stomping an awakened fallen empire with the crisis just a dim memory of the past while i wait for the timer to finish to complete my victory, and still not have mega-engineering.

i wish i could find a mod to let me just reroll the research options. i'm literally cursed.

it happened yet again just now. i had zero point reactors and the blockers on the shattered ring segments completely cleared, every single one of my starbases was a citadel, i had fleets of battleships and i had spammed habitats as fast as i could afford the alloys and influence to get them. i finally completed the cybernetic ascension path in 2309. i was pulling in 2k research, and was on repeatable lvl 5 techs. my entire empire and all of my vassals had every system filled with hyperlanes. empires outside my federation and vassals were spamming gateways and megastructures.

i finally got mega-engineering in 2391. i didn't have enough alloys to even start restoring the ring sectionsuntil 2400.

i finished restoring the first ring section in 2411, and was the galactic custodian, and finished off the crisis that same year.

feels like such a waste of my time. like, why even bother?

How many non-repeatable techs do you have clogging up your research? The chance of getting more than one repeatable when there are other options is very low, so clearing out those normal techs and having more research options will greatly increase the chance of seeing rare techs like Mega-Engineering.

2k research seems low for 2300. Focusing more on science will get you through the tech tree faster, including whatever techs you're looking for. Stacking repeatables won't change the weight of any techs, so you need to research something else to change that.

I've gotten it before 2230 in two games (where I'd been looking for it to take the AP).

Small sample size and all that, but it's possible to get it fairly early.

Managed to take Flesh is Weak as my 2nd AP once.

False. Scientist specialization ALWAYS matters, but it's minor. Any tech has increased drop rate if the scientist is the right specialization. A minor increase, but if the tech won't drop this is an easy way to increase it. As I said, for the first few techs that's industry, and for megaengineering itself that's voidcraft.

Got the tech for it ~2045 today.
In another game where I aimed from Synthetics I got it somewhere between 2050 and 2070.

With normal tech costs. Getting it only 2300 or later seems rather strange.
